Little Switzerland elopement in the North Carolina Mountains
When most couples dream of a North Carolina mountain elopement, they imagine sweeping Blue Ridge Parkway views, warm sunlight, and endless mountain peaks. But for Dan and Emily, their Little Switzerland wedding day brought something entirely different—and equally magical.
This adventurous couple wanted an intimate micro-wedding with only their closest family and friends. Their priority? Time together and plenty of couple portraits along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Little Switzerland, a charming mountain town tucked along the parkway, was the perfect home base for their day.
Embracing the Mist & Rain
When their wedding day arrived, so did the rain—and not just a sprinkle. A heavy mist rolled over the mountains, settling in so thick that the iconic views completely disappeared. While some couples might have been disappointed, Dan and Emily embraced it. The result? Moody, romantic mountain wedding photos that perfectly captured the quiet intimacy of their day.
I always keep white umbrellas in my car for rainy-day weddings, and they were a game-changer here. Not only did they keep the couple (mostly) dry, but they added a beautiful, classic touch to their portraits. The mist softened the background, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that felt straight out of a romantic film.
A Drive Along the Blue Ridge Parkway
After their heartfelt ceremony in Little Switzerland, we set out along the Blue Ridge Parkway to capture portraits. While the sweeping overlooks were hidden in clouds, the misty forest scenes were absolutely breathtaking. We stopped along winding mountain roads, lush greenery framing every shot, and found beauty in the unexpected.
One of my favorite surprises of the day was stumbling across a vibrant yellow flower field. Against the gray, rainy backdrop, the flowers were a burst of joyful color—and made for some of the most striking wedding images of the day.
